Witt to “Ironman” the Qualifying Round of the OpMo Virtual Race for Heroes

May 19, 2023

PCA Sim Racing is once again partnering with PCA Regions to co-host a pair of events to benefit Operation Motorsport. The goal for the 2023 campagn is $25,000 USD. Based on the success of prior events, and with your help, this is a very achievable goal!

The 2023 Virtual Race for Heroes will be run as a two-race fundraising event.

  • Qualifying Race: Sunday, May 21st at Sebring – 4-hour race
  • Benefit Feature Race: Sunday, August 27th at Le Mans – 6-hour race

Race 1 at Sebring will feature 15-minute open qualification; however, the grid for Race 2 at Le Mans will be determined by the finishing order of the Sebring race (no qualification in the Le Mans race session). Usually, sim racing events defined as requiring team participation disqualify cars that only have a single driver, but, because this is fundraising event, solo drivers are being allowed in this case. Enter Schadenfreude Fodder.

Originally, Rob Cottle and Chip Witt were scheduled to participate in a three-hour race at Le Mans in the CMS iRTES Series Sunday, May 21st, but, given Rob is on vacation, and Chip was unable to find a suitable substitute, Wild Deuce Racekraft is having to drop this weekend’s race. While Rob will be on yet another vacation (lucky guy) for the August 27th Operation Motorsport Benefit Feature Race at Le Mans on August 27th, both Jeff Williams and Volker Krebs are interested in driving with Schadenfreude Fodder in that 6-hour race.

Only one driver is available to place a car on the grid for the Benefit Feature at Le Mans by way of a finish in Sunday’s race at Sebring: Chip. As luck would have it, one is enough with the allowance for participation of solo-driver cars in the event. Witt remarked, “with all the solo drivers in this first event, we have an ‘under-current championship’ brewing…we can call it ‘Battle of the Bladders’!” Regardless, he will be driving the 4-hour race solo in the Schadenfreude Foddder team’s #79 Porsche 911 RSR….and for a great cause.

Witt will stream the entire event on YouTube at https://youtube.com/live/9Q7Cf-wepKU?feature=share starting at 9:00 a.m. PDT on Sunday, May 21, 2023. The session will begin with 45 minutes of practice, followed by 15 minutes of open qualification. The green flag should drop at around 10:00 a.m. PDT with the checkers flying at around 2:00 p.m. PDT.

Please check-in on Chip throughout the day, and consider contributing to the team’s Operation Motorsport fundraising campaign at https://charity.pledgeit.org/t/SYUUm3x0fI to show your support.

Thanks in advance for your help!
